Fourth-Party Risk: The Blind Spot Most Programs Never See Coming

Your critical vendor passed every assessment. Strong financials. Clean audit. Solid SLA. What you didn’t know — couldn’t know, with a standard assessment — is that they rely on a single cloud provider for their core infrastructure. The same cloud provider that just experienced a 14-hour regional outage.

That’s fourth-party risk. And it’s the blind spot that standard vendor risk programs weren’t built to see. Ernie Bryan, resilience leader with Disney Experiences, explains why fourth-party risk is accelerating and how to build it into your program.

Community Wildfire Risk Reduction Program Framework

A new resource will help local governments, fire services and other community organizations come together to implement coordinated wildfire mitigation programs in their communities. “Communities are learning how to live with wildfire because in many areas it’s no longer a distant threat — it’s a reality,” said Steve Hawks, senior director for wildfire at IBHS and retired assistant deputy director at CAL FIRE.

The Community Wildfire Risk Reduction Program Framework from the Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety (IBHS) and the American Property Casualty Insurance Association (APCIA) outlines how communities can organize, launch and sustain effective wildfire risk reduction efforts. This framework, released March 2026, is a comprehensive toolkit designed to help local governments and neighborhoods implement science-based that provides step-by-step guidance for planning, structural hardening, and creating defensible space, including a 0- to 5-foot noncombustible zone. You can access the full Community Wildfire Risk Reduction Program Framework — including templates, guidance documents and implementation resources.
