Risk Reporting and Communications - One Part Science, the Other Art

Many risk professionals now realize that ERM is more than a science…or a set standard or process that must be followed at all costs.

There certainly is a time and place for these formal processes. But like cooking, there’s also an art to ERM, especially when it comes to reporting and communications.

Formal reports that present data should be considered the ‘science’ part, while communications with business leaders and stakeholders is the ‘art.’ It’s impossible to have one without the other.

Risk expert Carol Williams explains that the uncertainty of today’s business environment requires ERM to be more agile than a formal process alone.

Continuity, Coffee & Chat Thursday, Apr 3, 2025, 8:15 AM - 9:30 AM ET

Helping global professionals connect & collaborate! THIS is at the core of the evolved Risk and Resilience HUB. Whereas the Disaster Resource GUIDE was about pushing out information (content) via the annual GUIDE and the Continuity eGUIDE, the HUB is about bringing people together online to do this very thing – connect and collaborate. We acknowledge - this is hard to do! Recently we met a BC professional who is doing this already. Hooray, we celebrate her success! Last month our team was super impressed as we joined in on CBCP Doniella Mckoy’s monthly chat (1st Thursday of the month) open to all resilience professionals and students interested in BC, Crisis Mgt, IT/DR Emergency Mgt, ERM and beyond. By chance, we were happy to meet Doniella in March at the DRJ Spring conference in Orlando. We think she represents the future of our industry! Don't miss this chance to engage with a diverse, international group dedicated to resilience. Our team plans to attend. Hope to see you there! Join Doniella and more than 150 professionals on April 3 >>

Over the past year, survey after survey has looked at the threat landscape, with a consistent theme evident: the pandemic threat is missing. RF editor David Honour looks at why this might be.

Apart from one report which classified future pandemic as a catastrophic risk with the highest likelihood of happening, other reports have focused on various threats often with no mention of future pandemics. David says we should pay more attention.
