The National Alliance to End Homelessness has brought together resources to ensure people experiencing homelessness are adequately included in disaster preparedness planning, response, and recovery.
This goes beyond major disasters to account for year-round preparedness in the face of more frequent extreme weather events. Among the resources linked are The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s guide, Disaster Planning and Response, and The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Disaster Recovery Homelessness Toolkit.
The Alliance urges the importance of ensuring the most vulnerable members of a community are taken into account in disaster preparedness.
