Crisis Response: Not losing sight of people amid preparedness

COVID-19 prompted many companies to re-evaluate their crisis-response policies, writes Mike Verano, in an article for Psychology Today, and though these plans often came out stronger, they also often failed to properly address the human impact.

“Mishandling the people side of a crisis prolongs recovery, increases turnover, lowers morale, and reduces employee engagement,” explains Verano, suggesting that to maintain long-term resilience, it’s essential to shift from Crisis Mode to Continuity Mode.

Continuity Mode prioritizes phycological safety, flexibility and innovation, shared responsibility for employee well-being, and normalizes learning from failure without blame.
