Emergency Response: Expanding training and equipment access in First Nations

Many First Nations in Northern Canada face isolation and limited volunteer-based first response services. The Emergency First Response Team program aims to change that, and it continues to grow.

Matt Prokopchuk, in an article for NWO News Watch, writes about this government-funded program, an Indigenous-led partnership between individual communities and Ontario’s Ornge air ambulance service.

The program aims to train, pay, and provide essential medical equipment—including specialized vehicles—to first responders in First Nations.
