Deepfakes can happen to anyone, says Allison Carter of PR Daily. But there are things crisis communications professionals can do to prepare themselves for the possibility.
Whether it’s a photo, video or audio clip, deepfakes are becoming more and more common, especially as AI evolves. And right now, Carter says, there isn’t really a way to prevent deepfakes from happening. The alternative? Making sure there’s a deepfake action plan included in your crisis strategy.
To create a deepfake action plan, Carter says there are a few best practices organizations can follow. Many of them are similar to the elements of standard crisis planning – such as gathering stakeholders together before a crisis actually happens. Other best practices that are more specific to this kind of situation include determining whether a piece of content is actually a deepfake, or whether it’s real.
Carter shares more advice in her piece on PR Daily.
